Course Overview

Law is the subject for you if you have a genuine interest in the Law or the English Legal System, if you enjoy an intellectual challenge or if you are interested in becoming a barrister or solicitor. Law essentially involves the study of the English Legal System and the system of Law Making in England and Wales along with a detailed look at key aspects of Criminal Law, the Law of Tort and Human Rights.You will learn about the nature of law with regards to the differences between criminal law and civil law. You will learn about who works in the English Legal System, the civil and criminal court structure and how the law is made. You will consider in detail the criminal offences of murder and manslaughter, property offences, attempts and general defences.

Course Requirements

PLEASE NOTE – YOU MUST APPLY FOR 3 A LEVELS

Standard A Level entry requirements: 5 x GCSE grade 5’s or above (must include Maths and English Language).

What you will Learn

Law is taught by a team of highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic teachers. Study visits develop students’ understanding of Law. Trips include visiting the Crown court, Old Bailey and the Houses of Parliament.

Assessment

Assessment is 100% examinations at the end of the course:

Paper one: Nature of Law and the English System is worth 25% of the overall A level.
Paper two: Substantive Law in Practice is worth 37.5% of the overall A level.
Paper three: Perspectives in Substantive Law is worth 37.5% of the overall A level.

Progression

Once you’ve finished your Law A level you’ll have picked up a range of useful skills including the ability to analyse, debate, use cases to provide evidence and communicate effectively. These will be a really big help when you continue with your studies at university and in employment.
