Course Overview

This new course offers students the chance to further their studies of science that takes a different approach from the traditional A-level route. The extended certificate is the equivalent size to 1 A Level. The National Extended Certificate in Applied Human Biology includes a range of practical laboratory experience and academic study.

To assist students in their studies and understanding of science in the wider world this course includes talks from industry professionals and visits to places of scientific interest and industry.

4 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and/or Maths. For Applied Human Biology we are looking for applicants with 4s in your GCSE Combined Science or GCSE Biology.

Unit 1 (externally assessed exam) ? Principles of Applied Human Biology
Unit 2 (internally assessed) ? Practical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases
Unit 3 (externally assessed task) ? Human Biology and Health Issues
You will also complete 1 optional unit from the following list which is internally assessed:
Functional Physiology
Diseases, Disorders, Treatments and Therapies
Genetics and Genetic Engineering
Biomedical Science
Human Reproduction and Fertility

BSc (Hons) in Occupational Health if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health
BSc in Nursing or Midwifery if taken if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care
BSc (Hons) in Sport Science if taken alongside a Pearson BTEC Level 3 in Sport
BSc (Hons) in Nursing if taken alongside A Levels in Psychology and Sociology

Tasks incliude: providing students with work-based challenges in timed, realistic work conditions.
